The Daily Dish is a play of words that reflects the passion of its two owners, Jerry Hollinger and Zena Polin, who believe in serving comfort food with a twist — food that is seasonally inspired, locally sourced and made from farm fresh ingredients.
Executive Chef/Co-owner Jerry was born in Ephrata, Pennsylvania and has a Mennonite background. His parents owned a grocery store that focused on locally sourced and natural foods, long before the concept of Whole Foods existed. He grew up with a love of cooking and after working as a private chef and then a line cook and sous chef for Jean Michel in Bethesda, he started his first business, a boutique catering company. Jerry, who can often be found in the kitchen during weekend brunches, plans and tests the menu with Executive Chef Michael Chretien. He enjoys making wholesome food that is reminiscent of family dinners surrounded by his parents and six brothers and sisters. Zena, co-owner, is a trilingual author, editor & writer with experience writing about food, wine and travel in Latin America, the Caribbean, Puerto Rico and the US. She is the author of two guidebooks, The Other Side of Sydney and The Pub, Grub Guide; managing editor and principal writer of two destination magazines, Visitor St. Kitts and Nevis and Discover St. Kitts; and writer for a Caribbean cable television show, St. Kitts Visitor Channel. Her article on Sol Food (Bogota, Colombia) and A Culinary Tour of Georgetown appeared in Washington Flyer and Latitudes Magazine. After appearing on Planet Green with Emeril Lagasse on Craving the Caribbean she decided she was ready to take on a new experience. Until becoming a partner in The Daily Dish, she was the owner of The Winning Ticket, a public relations, marketing & communications firm with clients in Washington, DC, St. Kitts & Puerto Rico.
